Easter Mid-Semester Break Marathon - 24/4

Posted by Watari to the Club blog
4:50PM Thursday, 17 April 2014

Now that the AGM's all over and done with and you know who to salute and/or bow to as you see them hanging around uni, it's time to announce the first major event of this exciting time: The Traditional Mid-Semester Marathon! For those of you who don't know, we tend to pick a day during the holidays where we book a lecture theatre and watch anime all day - and these holidays are no exception.

Event: Marathon (of watching anime, not running)

Date: Thursday April 24

Location: Old Arts - Theatre C

Time: 9:00am - 5:00pm

The theme is 'New Season Stuff' - so get ready for us to tell you what's totally groovy (terms used ironically) and what all the cool kids will be talking about for the next three months. And yes, there will be pocky.

2014 Annual General Meeting and Tuesday Room Change

Posted by Perd to the Club blog
10:36PM Monday, 31 March 2014

Before we get to the exciting bit of this communication, we need to inform you all that the Tuesday lunchtime screening room has changed yet again. The new room (and the room for the rest of the semester) will be Old Metallurgy Building - Room 202. Apologies for all the room changes, we are just as annoyed by them as you. This will hopefully be the absolute last change for the semester.

Now, it's that time of the year again when its out with the old and in with the new. Weekly Watchers of Wonderful Anime will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in a few weeks and its a great chance for those who want to find out how we operate, and have a say on how we will run in the future.

In particular, at this AGM we will be voting on whether to change our club name from "The Weekly Watchers of Wonderful Anime" to  "The Anime and Manga Club". Note that this is a proposed change - we will be rigorously discussing the pros and cons at the meeting. If you want to take part in this discussion and make your voice heard make sure you are there! Not only that, we also have to decide who gets to be on the 2014-2015 committee. If that's not enough, there will be FREE pizza and drinks. Free food. What more can you ask for?

Date: Friday the 11th of April

Time: 12:45pm till 2:00pm

Place: Babel Building - Chisholm Theatrette (the Friday screening room)

Every current club member is eligible for a general committee position, but Exec positions are only for students of the University. Every committee position will be vacant and need to be filled at the AGM and as such, it is fair game to anyone who wants to have a go and help out with running the club. The positions are listed below:

Executive Committee:

-President

-Vice President

-Treasurer

-Secretary

General Committee:

-Librarian

-Publications

-Art Director

-Liaison Officer

-Web Master

Nominations for all these positions will be open at the AGM but should you be unable to attend and still want to nominate yourself for any of these positions, please email [email protected] with your name, contact details, and any speech that you want read at the AGM. If you wish to know more about the roles of any of the above positions, again don't hesitate to email the President on the above email address.

Also linked below are several very important documents. These outline crucial information about the AGM and the club so we strongly encourage everyone who is planning to attend to read them. These documents are:

Agenda - A description of what will happen during the AGM, topics that will be discussed and how the meeting will be structured.

Current Constitution - The pillars upon which this club stands on, and there are several amendments to be considered this year. Namely, the name change to "The Anime and Manga Club".

Proposed Constitution - The fine details of the change (literally just changing article 1.1 and the title of the document).

The Financial Report will be distributed at the meeting, and details all the financial dealings of the club since the last AGM.

Manga and Anime Discussion Event - 3/4

Posted by Perd to the Club blog
9:38PM Friday, 28 March 2014

Your committee is proud to present a new and improved Manga and Anime Discussion Event, as we expand our horizons from the realm of static pictures of manga to the world of anime. Although most of the focus of the event will still be on manga as per usual, we realised that inevitably anime would come into the equation and discussion and therefore we have decided to include it in the name of the event. We will be complementing the event with some physical copies of manga from Rowden White Library, but as always encourage you to bring your own to share and show the others at the event.

Date: Thursday 3rd of April

Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Location: Union House Second Floor - Joe Napolitano A

Like always, there will be pocky and drinks, so why not come along and bring a few friends while you snack and explore the intricacies of manga and anime. If you haven't come to many events yet this semester, this is a great one to meet some members and make friends!

Welcome to WWWA 2014

Posted by Perd to the Club blog
5:17PM Saturday, 1 March 2014

A warm welcome to all our new members who signed up during O-Week and welcome back to our renewed members. We would appreciate if you could take some time to read the rest of the email as it contains information related to our screenings and upcoming events. If you can't be bothered, check out our website for more details. We also have afacebook page which is a great place to keep up to date on our events and a chance to mingle with other members of the club.

If you were forcibly coerced into joining this club or suddenly suffered amnesia and can't remember who we are and why you have a shiny new membership card in your wallet, Weekly Watchers of Wonderful Anime is a club dedicated to the viewing, discussion and exploration of both anime and manga. Should you still be curious, we have an FAQ page that will go into more detail on who we are and what we do.

We will be bringing along to our screenings the extensive anime library of DVDs and NAS (network attached storage device) so you can borrow from our collection. To borrow from the NAS however you'll need to bring your own laptop with a few pieces of software installed (details are on our library site). We endeavour to bring the library to all screenings - but sometimes we just can't get to them all. To make sure it's there on the day you want, you can email our librarian Jerome at [email protected]

Manga Discussion Event
Not only that, we are also having an upcoming manga discussion event during the first week. This is a great event to meet with other fellow manga readers and lovers and unleash your inner passion. Although we will supplement the event with manga from Rowden White Library, we strongly encourage you to bring along any copies that you might own and feel like sharing. The theme for this event is "Manga 101" (apologies to the members who went to last years event with the same theme, but it's a good one to start with).

Date: Thursday 6th of March
Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Venue: Union House Second Floor - Graham Cornish A

If you happen to know someone who hasn't signed up yet and may be interested in joining, or if you just didn't get time in O-Week to sign back up, feel free to come along to any of our events. Membership is only $5 and it means access to lots of anime, manga, events and the almighty Pocky. Being a member also allows you to receive discounts at all of our sponsors which can be found on our sponsors page. Also don't forget to join our Facebook Page if you haven't already done so.

Looking forward to another great year,
Your WWWA Committee

Trivia Night - 27/9

11:54PM Thursday, 19 September 2013

The committee is proud to present the crown jewel of the semester, the event of events, the justification for embarking on marathons of anime: Trivia Night. It is a night to be remembered as the dogs of war are let loose. Friends become foes, the enemy of my enemy is potentially a friend and the fires of competitiveness are stoked in a quest to obtain One Pie—cough victory.

Date: Friday 27th of September
Time: 5:15pm till around 9pm
Location: Union House Lounge

In addition to the usual Pocky and drinks made available, this is one of the few chances where members can enjoy takeaway dinner from Ramen Ya, with discounted bentos on offer ($5 off for members!). To get your hands on these, make sure you fill out this form, however we also strongly encourage all members who are attending the event to RSVP via the form so we could gather a rough idea as to how many are attending, even if you aren't ordering a bento. Orders are open till Thursday 26th of September but don't leave it to the last minute.

As with all of our events, Trivia Night is open and welcome to all your friends that you can invite. Whether you have just started watching anime or if anime is your life, soul and body, we have got questions for you all. We advise you to grab a partner beforehand as to make the grouping process on the night easier but fear not if you can't find one, we will be pairing those in a similar situation with you. This event is a great chance to meet other members of the club, make new friends and rivals, potentially win some pretty awesome prizes, and generally have a great time. For, in Barney Stinson's words, Trivia Night is going to be legen — wait for it... I hope you're not lactose intolerant — dary.

Hope to see you there~

11:40AM Sunday, 3 March 2013

To kick off a fantastic start to the year (O-week was a blast!) we're holding a Welcome Party for all our members this Friday, the 8th of March in the Union House Lounge from 5pm to 9pm.

It's party time, so come along and meet other members, both old and new, while you enjoy games, anime, bentos, takoyaki, soft drinks and pocky. There will be game consoles, anime tunes, board games, and more! If you have a console, or game you want to bring - go ahead and contact me at [email protected] just to confirm we'll have enough screens and the such.

If you want us to order a bento (Japanese lunch box meal) from Ramen Ya for you, then make sure you fill out our order form - you'll get a $4 discount because you're a member! Signups will be available on the night as well. It'd be great if even if you aren't ordering dinner through us to RSVP using the previous form, so that we have a general idea of numbers. Our facebook event page here will be updated with more information once it comes to light.

WWWA at O-Week 2013

Posted by Perd to the Club blog
11:52AM Monday, 25 February 2013

It seems that the summer break has finally come to an end, and with it, the beginning of semester. Luckily, we have plans during O-Week to cheer you up!

Our stall will be present at South Lawn for sign-ups on Friday the 1st of March. If you want to renew your membership on Thursday the 28th of Feb instead, pop into our Marathon; we'll have sign-up's available there. Along with a gift bag filled with goodies we'll also be giving out raffle tickets to people who sign up; this is your opportunity to win some awesome prizes without having to win Trivia Night! Lastly, we'll be finishing off our O-Week with the Sponsor Run, ending up at Ramen Ya hopefully in time for dinner. Check out all the details below. Also just a reminder that your membership does not carry over from last year; so make sure to sign up again if you don't want to miss out on information about our events.

Marathon screenings are happening both days:

Date: Thursday February 28th, and Friday March 1st
Time: 10am - 4pm
Location: Microbiology Building - Thomas Cherry Theatrette

Sign-up's will be available at the screening on the Thursday, and at South Lawn on Friday.

Raffle draw and prize give-out:

Date: Friday March 1st
Time: 3pm
Location: Stall at South Lawn

Additional tickets will be available for $1 each on the day (if some of the prizes catch your eye you can increase your odds and buy some extra tickets). An important note; make sure that you're at the stall at the appointed time to claim your prize! Otherwise, the prize may go to someone else.

Sponsor Run:

Date: Friday March 1st
Time: 3.30pm
Location: Starting from our stall at South Lawn, going around to all our sponsors in the city.

A map of the route we will take is here: http://i.imgur.com/vnHzgvD.png

We'll meet at the stall and head around to visit all our sponsors, before finishing it off with dinner at Ramen Ya. A great way to socialise with members, both old and new, so come along!.

Club members who want to volunteer their time should contact [email protected] for details; thanks for your help in advance. Volunteering could include things like helping out with the stall/screenings on the day, advertising, cosplaying, and just generally socialising with new and potential members.
